SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, plus his partners at data-hoovering Palantir Technologies and drone-makers Anduril, are even the frontrunner, per Reuters confidential sources on Apr. 17, to build the Trump-championed "Golden Dome," an AI-enabled missile homeland defense system to cost an estimated two trillion dollars. On May 1, Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and other Congressional Democrats warned of DOGE conflicts of interest and called the Golden Dome maneuvering part of "a disturbing pattern," a way to "enrich Mr. Musk and other elites."

For key government positions, including military and/or information technology (IT) roles, the Trump administration has nominated or employed former Palantir tech execs and former senior executives from Anduril. In February, the makers of AI drone systems secured an Air Force contract and announced it had swiped an Army one from Microsoft.

Created by Douglas Lucas in mid-May 2025 as a footnote for his June 4, 2025 article at Rolling Stone titled Republican bill would legalize DOGE and let Trump dismantle everything: The Reorganizing Government Act is a longshot in the Senate, but that could change--and so would the separation of powers.
