Trump insists tariffs will (magically) pressure patriotic companies into relocating to the U.S. to succeed in his purportedly pro-biz climate, but to make enough products, what domestic manufacturing still exists pretty much needs sufficient imports to work with.
To say otherwise is pretty much akin to arguing that if you prevent nutrients and rain from easily reaching the soil, domestic farmers' entrepreneurial genius, or that of faraway farmers who for some reason will zip home to work this newly barren dirt, will find a way to bootstrap food from nothing.
